The 11th of October marks the UN’s International Day of the Girl Child. This day aims to highlight and address the needs and challenges girls face, while promoting girls’ empowerment and the fulfilment of their human rights.
This year’s theme is “With Her: A Skilled Girl Force”. The UN notes that girls are preparing to enter a world of work that is being transformed by innovation and automation. Educated and skilled workers are in great demand, but roughly a quarter of young people – most of them female – are currently neither employed or in education or training.
To mark this year’s International Day of the Girl Child, Talent RISE are delighted to announce an event on the 21st of November at Pop Brixton, London, in partnership with Karismatic Minds and TSIP. The event, named “The RISE of a tech GirlForce” will bring together young women from disadvantaged backgrounds and female staff from across Talent’s UK offices on the 21st of November to share their perceptions and experiences of working within the tech sector.
Talent RISE aims to start building a platform to engage more young women within the tech industry in the UK. To start this process, this event will bring together disadvantaged young women with female staff from within Talent and trusted external guests.
The aim is for female staff and external guests to act as role models to the young women, inspiring them to consider a career within the tech sector by highlighting the opportunities that exist. By sharing their own lived experiences and lessons learned, female staff and external guests will also educate the young women, providing them with an honest view of the challenges they will face and how these might be tackled.
The event will help to develop a positive awareness amongst young women about the overall tech sector, as well as develop their understanding of the some of the barriers and complexities faced by women in the tech sector and empower them to work towards employment and training opportunities within the tech industry.
