Meet Jordan Puleiku, a Senior Account Executive at (Australian Community Media) ACM [KA1] and a proud Talent RISE graduate. Jordan’s journey began in 2019 when he joined Talent RISE, seeking guidance in his transition into a new career path. With our program’s support, he polished his resume, improved his interview skills, and secured a graduate role in sales. Now, with over five years at ACM, Jordan shares his story.
Can you tell us about your career journey and how Talent RISE played a role in it?
My career took a major turn in 2019 when I joined Talent RISE. At the time, I was working at DHL Express in customs work, but I realised it wasn’t the right path for me. Through Talent RISE, I met Saskia (Talent RISE’s Youth Program Manager), who took the time to understand my goals and skills. She believed I would thrive in sales, so we worked on polishing my resume and refining my interview skills. Saskia arranged interviews with three media companies, and I landed the third one at ACM.
Starting as a graduate, I’ve worked my way up over the past five years to become a Senior Account Executive. I’m proud of my progression and grateful for the guidance Talent RISE provided, setting me on this path.
Q: How did the skills and experience you gained with Talent RISE contribute to your success?
Talent RISE gave me the tools I needed to break into a new industry. Before joining, I hadn’t interviewed for a job in a long time, as I was primarily placed into roles through agencies. Saskia’s expertise was invaluable—she helped me understand what employers look for and how to present my skills effectively. Learning how to navigate interviews and structure my resume was a game-changer. Without that support, I wouldn’t have been as prepared or confident to secure my role at ACM.
Q: What are the achievements or milestones you’re particularly proud of?
I’m really proud of my overall journey at ACM. Starting as a graduate and progressing to a Senior Account Executive role in five years reflected my hard work and the opportunities I’ve embraced. Another personal milestone is being selected to join ACM’s management program, where I’ll learn how to take on leadership roles. It’s exciting to be preparing for the next step in my career.
Q: What are your goals for the future?
My ultimate goal is to move into management and eventually hold a leadership position. I’ve already started taking steps in that direction by joining ACM’s management program, which begins next month. It’s all about continuous growth for me, and I’m eager to climb the corporate ladder and make a meaningful impact within the industry.
Q: What advice would you give young people who are currently struggling with gaining valuable employment?
My advice is simple: don’t stay still. Even if you’re not in your dream job right now, every role can teach you something valuable. Early in my career, I worked in a bread factory, flipping loaves on machines during odd hours. It wasn’t what I wanted to do long-term, but it taught me discipline, teamwork, and time management—soft skills that are transferable to any job.
So, if you’re struggling, take on roles that help you gain experience and develop your skills. Stay positive and remind yourself that every step gets you closer toward your ultimate goal.
